January 18th 2023: Members of the Huntington Beach City Council want to sue the State Of California over the new housing requirements for the city. The State of California has ordered the city to build 13,368 new affordable housing units in the city.
The new affordable housing requirements apply to all cities with the State Of California deciding the number required for each city. A letter to the city from the California Department of Housing and Community Development indicates the state is willing to take the city to court if they don’t comply. Four new council members elected in November think the mandate from the state think it goes too far and want to fight it.
